Interface design for iPhone RPG

While I'm still trying to find out how to render OpenGL ES in a texture, the question arose how to design the interface?

There are enough here once classic examples:

Or as I've seen in a RPG on my elf:

Somehow it would be very important to me but some of the ways which we offer to eventually integrate the iPhone. Less permanently visible buttons that zoom the 3D view unnecessarily, and which would eventually serve poorly with slightly larger fingers. Motion by the party within the 3D view of defined areas, change the party establishment by drag'n'drop, etc. A very rough structure could possibly look like this:

What do you think of the idea? Or you might have better suggestions?
