Small test: Moblin Trunk

What actually comes to us?

The version numbers of packages in the development repo they're all interesting. And this afternoon it was so far ... the curiosity was (again) to big! A few weeks ago I had already tried an update, but I failed miserably xD

Thanks to the Moblin Image Creator a LiveCD image from the said repo handicrafts and installed ...

Moblin-trunk-6

Look to the lack of icons in the panel above you can see already that not everything is working correctly. The upper panel wanted more Partou not disappear, and new windows stacked one above the happy, instead of appearing in a new zone. No matter ... will indeed look briefly;)

The new icons by the way I find really great! The new view of the (unfortunately still ONLY) Tweets succeeded. Which is located below the most recently opened documents and Web pages is getting used to and I think that rather disturbing. In the screenshot now not to realize your document pictures are not always classified as beautiful as mine above. Rather, they are mixed between the tweets. I think it would be better if the Quick Launch icons were arranged on the bottom of the screen. Hold as the taskbar in Windows Seven. We would have room for more icons and possibly also some widgets (eg number of new emails / feeds?).

Moblin-trunk-1

change the background image (not that of the MyZone panels) is so far only with a bit of fiddling. The Moblin 2.2 has finally an end. Also will probably rearrange the modules in the top panel (apparently quite make out). And I was glad when I saw the settings for the window ... I finally double click on the title bar:)

Moblin-trunk-3

Space-saving cosmetic corrections can also be found at the Nautilus file manager!

Moblin-trunk-0

The Alt + Tab behavior in 2.1 was used to, as I am every time we came to the zone page and not as expected for the desired application. This also has an end soon! Alt + Tab switches to the applications, as we are used to from other distros and Windows.

Moblin-trunk-5

So ... the fact the most striking were the things I have noticed when you browse. I wanted more but then the mouse pointer to Speed (hihi, the touchpad settings were nausea screwed up and did not change using GUI) does not really try anything to make xD

The icons have my way, like so much that I have geschnürrt for us in one package:

Wordpress Theme - Construction work

Please do not scare, but I'll probably tinker over the next 2-3 days, a little on the blog around.

So do not be surprised if it looks in a different way;)

Open Office on Moblin

I notice the land here many because they have searched for OpenOffice and Moblin. Sometimes I'm in the Moblin Blog encountered even on posts, in which the absence is criticism of Open Office packages. We'll see if I can help you.

Open Office is indeed in Moblin repo, but you can not install times, unfortunately, how it is. Who uses the graphical Application Management provides happy after a search for "open office" with a seemingly endless list of packages. Great! What packages do we do now?

For the entire Open Office Suite:

  • OpenOffice_org

Or do you only install individual components:

  • OpenOffice_org-writer
  • OpenOffice_org-math
  • OpenOffice_org-impress
  • OpenOffice_org-base
  • OpenOffice_org-calc
  • OpenOffice_org-draw

For German language:

  • OpenOffice_org-l10n-de
  • OpenOffice_org-help-de
  • OpenOffice_org-thesaurus-de

In recent times can be with me but no more packages to install using a graphical package management. Should he stop even when you install, you just open a terminal and installed using yum:

sudo yum install <Paketname1> <Paketname2> ...

So, for example, to install only the German text editor:

sudo yum install OpenOffice_org-writer OpenOffice_org-l10n-de

VirtualBox on Moblin

Who needs a virtual machine on his netbook, can safely take up VirtualBox. Unfortunately you can not install the Fedora packages offered. Therefore, we rely on "all distributions" download back to i386. Find it: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

virtualbox-1
In the screenshot I have, unfortunately, started up the wrong download xD
Use the "all distributions" continue to take down packages.

After the download, we open a terminal window and type the following statements:

cd ~/Downloads
sudo yum install gcc kernel-netbook-devel
sudo sh VirtualBox-3.1.2-56127-Linux_x86.run

Where appropriate, you must adjust the file name in the last step. If everything went as smooth as in you me, you now have VirtualBox installed including an icon.

virtualbox-2

virtualbox-3

Caution:

Since I have just installed VirtualBox, I get both after the initial boot of Moblin as well (but so far only 1x in 2 hours) in between an error of the kernel. You can them simply click away and continue working as usual. But whether the virtual machine to work properly later, I can assure you, unfortunately not: (

Think about it before you, so please, whether you yourselves VirtualBox installed as described here! Get the error times keep in mind ... so far I can live with one click so well anymore.

MPlayer and another patch Nautilus

In the meantime, even with mplayer sources from SVN 05.01.2010 to find in the repo. Maybe even one or another use for this media player. I stay out of habit rather be with VLC.

For Nautilus, I discovered another interesting patch, which designed the sidebar a little clearer. For as soon as I plugged in USB disk + Stick + SD Card have is the sidebar Sun trashed I already have to look more closely.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so times two of them:

nautilus-sidebar-old
Old sidebar

nautilus-sidebar-new
New Sidebar

I think definitely more practical than that of confusion before. Unfortunately, the patch has yet been a catch: The areas must be at every newly opened Nautilus window, pulled out again and again. Would be so very grateful if someone would tell me how I do

a) all the spaces immediately swung

b) Opening and closing also happens when you click on the area (currently you have to klickseln for it on the small arrow)

The original patch, you will find the way here: GNOME Bugzilla

Update:

So ... the drop-in Nautilus bug is fixed:) I then uploaded a newer Chromium also quickly build, as well as the fine Minitube Youtube player.
